MARCH 31ST LAST DAY TO DROP OFF ITEMS TO THE DOWNS RD DROP OFF POINT.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALISON WHO HAS GIVEN UP HER TIME AND DRIVEWAY FOR MANY A YEAR.
In South Wonston, we have ways to recycle selected items. Most of these can't go in your green kerbside recycling bins e.g. the only aluminium that can currently go in green bins are drinks cans. Some of the schemes used help raise money for charities.
Please consider your carbon footprint. Try to combine errands and don't make additional car journeys to recycle.
To check whether something is aluminium - if a magnet will not stick to it it's likely to be. The magnet will stick to most food tins e.g. baked beans, which means they are steel and can't go in.Including:
Drinks cans - fizzy soft drinks/beer etc (these can go in your Winchester City Council recycling bin but by putting them in our bin you will be raising money for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance). Please crush them, if you’re able to, as this means our bins don’t need emptying as often. It also makes them easier to transport and process.
Foil - Kitchen foil, food/takeaway containers and trays, pet food trays, sweet/chocolate wrappers
Screw lids - from wine bottles, squash bottle tops (not metal jar lids as these are steel)
Peel off lids - e.g. cream cheese, noodle pots, yoghurts
Coffee capsules - these need to be emptied of coffee grounds first (if you have lots of these please bag separately and place in bin)
Wires/Cables - Charging cables, electrical cables (plugs can be left on and recycled too)
Fairy Lights
Aerosol Cans - but please do the magnet check because not all of these are aluminium. If the magnet doesn't stick it is probably alluminium. Please remove as much plastic as possible.
If you have bigger items like rotary washing lines, saucepans, window frames please message to arrange drop off. We can also take copper and bronze items by arrangement.
